A788 An exceptionally detailed Mayan Plumbate head jar depicting the Old Fire God. This wonderful vessel is crafted in a rare brown variety of Plumbate color while the normal is a clouded olive green or orange. The cup exhibits fine hand modeled details showing the deity with wide open eyes, high brows, jutting cheek bones, long nose, parted lips with two fangs, a bearded jutting chin, earflares, and a banded head cover. Sits 5 1/4 inches tall and is in solid condition with various ancient nicks and chips else intact with patina. Southern Guatemala, c. 900-1200 A.D. $1,650.00

M4-190 A choice and rare bone effigy pendant depicting an alligator or iguana. This fine carving measures 4 3/8 inches long and is shaped in the reptile form with a spiny back, legs, and a long up bent head with toothy mouth. Retains two small obsidian high polished plugs, one for the eye and the other midway inserted in the neck. Drilled twice for suspension on the top and rear side of carving and appears to have had the tail broken in ancient times and re-ground. In excellent condition save a modern break to the rear foot. Fine and rare find. Overall with strong ancient patina. Guatemala, c. 400-600 A.D. $850.00

A732 A fine bi-facial flint knife chipped in a veined caramel color chert. This nicely shaped and thin kinife is well formed and conforms to the hand very nicely with the midsection on one side highly worn from thumb wear and smooth. Example is just over 7 3/4 inches long with a chipped tip otherwise excellent and marked 'Belize' on butt end. Beautiful color. Belize, c. 200-600 A.D. $400.00

A636 A large thin pottery bowl with a burnished brown interior and orange exterior with red painted temple designs surrounding the rim. A nice quality vessel retaining strong patina and light mineral deposits. Offering bowl sits on a slightly rounded base with a 9 1/4 inch diameter and approximately 3 1/2 inches tall. Reglued from two large pieces and missing a small shard. Marked on underside 'Mexico, Chilapa Site, 700-900 A.D.' The site of Chilapa lies in the modern state of Tabasco and near the important Maya site of Palenque. Mexico, Mayan, c. 600-900 A.D. $225.00

M1-229 A scarce molded whistle figurine in bright orange terra cotta depicting a standing dignitary holding a scepter in each hand, wearing a large panel with lappets upon his shoulders, collar and string across the neck, a face pendant with dangling beads, and a circular disc at the waist. Figurine stands nearly 7 1/2 inches tall and appears excellent condition with encrustations and ancient deposits. Restored across the neck, tips of feet, and mouthpiece of whistle and with a small patched probe hole on backside. A scarce and impressive figurine probably of Coban, Guatemala type; circa 600-900 A.D. $500.00

W243 A fine heavily patinated spear or lance head in uniface style and struck very thin, only 1/2 inch thick, with sharp edges and tip, very symmetrical. At just over 7 inches long this would have been a very imposing weapon that could easily penetrate thick reptilian skin if necessary. In excellent, undamaged condition and covered with ancient mineral deposits and patina. Marked with 'Belize' on handle from old collection. Belize, c. 200-600 A.D. $350.00

A627 An interesting and scarce style figurine depicting a wrinkled faced man in an 'acrobatic' type or animated pose. The figurine is crafted with a Teotihuacan style face, mold made, and is painted in a southern Guatemala lowlands vibrant orange. Figure itself is hand modeled and poses the man with his head turned and looking slightly upward, his arms straight down, and the torso raised and with feet on the ground. Quite unusual because typically, Lowland figures are very rigid in stance. The example sits 4 inches tall, 4inches long, and has a pitted surface with some losses, manganese deposits, one arm with some minor restoration and overall appears intact. Guatemala Lowlands, Esquintla region, circa 400-600 A.D. $150.00

MP293 A very beautiful and large, well made Mayan offering jar. This impressive example is an unusually well made solid red painted terra cotta jar or cup sitting 8 inches tall with a diameter of 6 1/2 inches and would, most likely, have served as a burial offering container in the southern lowlands of Guatemala. Vessel is stone polished on the buff terra cotta over the interior surface, the exterior wall with a beautiful solid thick layer of red paint that holds a beautiful surface sheen. Overall, in excellent, intact condition and with light dendritic mineral growths, surface pitting, and root markings inside and out. A wonderfully decorative and large jar. Guatemalan southern lowlands, c. 600-900 A.D. $450.00

MP264 A wonderful large stone idol of a dragon headed zoomorph. He stands erect with short snouted lizard like face, deep inset eye sockets for inlays, human ears with small earflares, round ornaments on top of head along with short horn in middle and fanning headdress behind. Wears collar tight against neck and a large tied knot at waist. This idol stands 23 inches tall and nearly 12 inches wide with the left arm reattached. The right arm is shaved off and missing, most likely from farming machinery; the right foot is modern replacement. Very decorative and much out of the norm deity from the southern lowlands of Guatemala, c. 300-600 A.D. $4,500.00

Property from a private U.S. collection, imported during the 1940's-1950's.

M2-5-304 A nice sized Mayan offering bowl with bright orange surface inside and out. This excellent, intact vessel has a 'ring like a bell' condition with only one tiny surface hairline at rim. Sits 5 inches tall with a diameter of 7 1/2 inches. The carefully crafted vessel has a squat form with a thin wall, the exterior with incised bands and five equally spaced small nodes, each connected with a sash-like incised line. Overall covered with strong ancient mineral deposits and light root markings.Very difficult to find in such wonderful condition. Southern Lowlands of Guatemala, c. 200-600 A.D. $400.00

JC214 An Exceptional Maya cup sitting 6 inches tall painted with a codex style black outlined intricate scene. Depicts many undulating loose eyeballs contained in an underworld scene floating through a stair stepped temple maze bridged by two large panels containing a fine codex style glyph in each. The scene is painted in deep black and bold blood red on a creamy yellow base. Vessel is intact, excellent condition with a few areas of light surface losses, one stable light separation at upper half from rim and covered inside and out with ancient deposits, heavier encrustation inside. The exterior has been lightly coated in wax to protect any flaking paint or losses and also bring out the bold colors. A stunning and scarce vessel. Peten, Guatemala, c. 600-900 A.D. $3,800.00

Ex. Ron Messick Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico

M2-4-186 A large Maya urn or incense burner standing just over 8 inches tall, with a diameter of just over 10 inches. This decorative vessel stands on three hollow legs, each with two vertical bands with pie crimp impressions; the body overall with a clouded dark brownish surface; the feet and interior with a blackened terra cotta surface. Overall, vessel is covered with ancient mineral deposits and in solid condition with several nicks and chips to the rim and the flared band above the legs, else quite nice. A very decorative size. Guatemala, c. 400-600 A.D. $600.00
