A665 A fine Sinu culture variant style votive statue. This wonderfully crafted figurine features stylistic combinations of the Quimbaya 'slab' figures as well as Narino paint and shows how diverse and well traded the wares of this time period were appreciated. This figure shows a modestly depicted male, due to the tiny phallus and small bulge beneath, seated in a cross legged pose with arms extending to join the feet. The large face has a serene appearance and he wears a nosering and band around the head. The face and body is painted in white and bordered by a tapered red painted design. He is formed in rough orange terra cotta with a flat base and round body with vent hole on top of head. Overall in solid, excellent condition with areas of light surface erosion at base, arms, and legs. Interior exhibits strong dendritic mineral deposits. 8 1/4 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches wide and has old museum accession number on base. Scarce. Sinu culture of Colombia, c. 800-1400 A.D. $900.00

A703 A bold Huari cup polychrome decorated with a bold deep red ground and two depictions of an open mouthed animal head with lappets in black, white, yellow, deep red, and gray. Between each large head is a human hand and arm extending from a bird wing. A very interesting design. Cup has some retouched cracks and minor retouching and a light pressure crack on underside. A very decorative example. 5 1/4 inches tall. Huari culture of Peru, c. 700-1000 A.D. $450.00

A685 A fine fragmentary incomplete Huari textile belt comprising 5 separate pieces. This fantastically ornate example has several pieces from the same belt all mounted together on a linen wrapped frame and is ready for hanging. Textile pieces are two- 3 inch wide pieces, probably separated from ancient damage, having a deep red ground with images of supernatural beings and abstract animal forms in green, golden, teal, blue, cream, burgundy, pink, and dark brown. Both examples are finished on the sides but with some minor separations in areas. The two pieces are 14 inches long mounted, but are doubled over on both ends and actually longer than shown. One is approximately 21 inches long and the other is 20 inches. Between the two large fragments are three thinner tassels or border pieces at 7 inches long each. Overall frame size is 17 inches by 12 1/2 inches wide. A very colorful display and high quality work. Huari culture of Peru, c. 800-1000 A.D. $600.00

A731 A tightly woven textile fragment with openwork design in dark brown, red, gold, blue, and cream showing a geometrically formed man in a dance pose holding a tumi knife in one hand, a wave design below, and red panel behind. Fragment is cut from a larger shirt and measures 7 1/4 inches long and 4 inches tall. Comes professionally mounted on a linen covered frame and is ready for hanging making an overall 13" by 10" display. Ex. Jean-Eugene Lions collection, Geneva Switzerland. Huarmey with Moche influence. Peru, c. 700-1000 A.D. Ex. Arte Primitivo, July 2006. $600.00

A598 A much finer than the normal Jama Coaque mold made votive figure of a woman with arms akimbo. She wears a large tufted head cover of rare hand appliques, a nose ornament, and retaining significant root markings and calcification overall. Figure stands 8 3/4 inches tall on slightly rounded base and is expertly reconstructed from clean breaks with matching fill and appears excellent. Painted in original and retouched yellow and green pigments. Ecuador, c. 500-1000 A.D. $450.00

A733 A beautiful Carchi/ Nariño jar with a rare animal effigy adorning the top. Vessel is in excellent condition but missing the animal's head from ancient times and with a tiny ancient hairline crack near one suspension loop. Jar sits nearly 4 inches tall with a diameter of just under 5 1/2 inches and is decorated with negative resist black designs on the plum base. Overall covered with heavy manganese deposits. The effigy laying across the top has long legs and arms and a long tail and appears to be a monkey or a lizard. Such effigies are rare for the culture and monkeys are a more dominating theme. Overall with strong ancient patina and a beautiful surface. Colombia, c. 1200-1400 A.D. $250.00

CL112 A Narino/Carchi wax resist decorated bowl in black and red on cream base at 3 inches tall, 5 1/4 inch diameter, intact with one stabilized stress crack. Retains much dendritic mineral depositing and vibrant paint. Colombia, c. 1200-1400 A.D. $100.00

A664 A fine small Colombian figurine, probably Quimbaya. The figure shows a standing female with a football shaped head, hands on wide hips, and thick legs. Overall with a red surface. She stands 4 3/4 inches tall with various surface eroded areas and repaired at the neck else quite nice. A very attractive example and unusual. Comes with custom walnut stand. Colombia, c. 500-1000 A.D. $300.00

A737 An interesting Huari bowl, or possibly Nazca with Huari influence. The beautiful red surface is polychrome decorated with a wide band in deep brown and large abstract temple or deity heads in yellow, gray, and burgundy with borders in cream. Very unusual designs and quite similar to Mayan glyphs. Bowl sits 3 inches tall with a 7 1/2 inch diameter and is in excellent condition with only a tiny rim chip and a very tiny hairline. Huari culture of Peru, c. 200-600 A.D. $400.00

A727 A vibrantly painted and distinct Huari face cup depicting a zoomorphic bird faced deity with short ears, wide circular eyes, small beak, and wearing a head band over long brown hair. Vessel is overall painted in bold deep red with brown, mustard, and cream details. Sits on a slightly spherical base at nearly 4 inches tall with a 5 1/2 inch width. In solid, excellent, undamaged condition; areas of very minor paint wear. Retains strong patina and light mineral encrustations inside. Huari culture of Peru, c. 600-800 A.D. $450.00

A658 A large Mochica spouted jug with relief scene showing a geometrical stepped decoration at the base, probably a temple design, with staircase above where a seated captive with an Ai-Apec fanged and wrinkled faced figure is held tightly while a serpent extends on his left and a mace headed club sits to his right. The central figure is held at the arms by an iguana clan zoomorph wearing a bird on his head, a small dog is curled on second step below. To the left a winged bird figure sits gripping his right arm. The rear of the temple scene shows two strange little men walking with two cord bound tall birds. A very unusual scene. Vessel stands an impressive 11 1/2 inches tall and 7 1/2 inches wide with suspension loops on each side. Overall in a burnished orange clay with remains of cream highlighting pigments. Repaired on the underside and low base with resurfacing while the body has some expertly filled cracks; appears excellent and intact. A very decorative and impressive vessel. Mochica, Peru c. 200-550 A.D. $1,250.00 Closeup Photo

A675 A fine Bolivian polychrome pitcher with bulbous base mounted with narrowing neck and pinched spout, a loop handle on back. Intricately painted with repeated panels of geometric stylized designs appearing to be human figures opposing each other vertically and connected at one leg; the legs of each human contort into a beaked bird head. Painted in dark brown with white outlining on the orange terra cotta base. Curiously, at the neck of this pitcher it appears that a human face had once existed in relief and was ground off in ancient times. Below the spout there is a wide vertical area meeting at a horizontal area that looks to be a nose and mouth; to each side is a round area with a carved recess (eyes) and behind that is a long vertical roughed surface area for ears. It appears that a human face may have been applied, post creation of this vessel in ancient times, and later came off. Vessel sits just over 7 inches tall and is in excellent, solid condition with minor rim and surface nicks. Bolivia, Expansion Period, c. 200-600 A.D. $450.00

A543 A bold Narino negative resist decorated chalice with unusual square cup on the pedestal base. Colombia, c. 800-1200 A.D. $500.00

A659 A fine and rare Mochica stirrup bottle in figural depiction of a man crawling on hands and knees. The figure has a cut nose, harelip with exposed top row of teeth, and club hands. His feet are cut off with bone exposed. Could be a depiction of a skin diseased man or a very abused captive. Bottle is crafted in a beautifully burnished orange with the tunic painted in a rare purplish mauve with white stripes; loin cover in white. He wears a twisted head band in white while the face has scarified designs on cheeks and chin. A fine example at 8 inches tall and 8 inches long. Vessel is in excellent condition with areas of worn white paint, light mineral deposits inside and out, and only minor perfectly matched fill over small lines on the legs. Mochica, c. 200-500 A.D. Peru. $1,850.00

The triangular face is surmounted with a tall, wide flaring turban and overall painted in bright red. Torso with incised delineation of small breasts, both painted red along with arms and feet. At an impressive 14 3/4 inches tall, this excellent example is reglued cleanly at the thin neck else excellent condition, and retains light ancient mineral deposits. The entire figure serves as an ocarina with mouth hole on backside of turban and finger holes on torso front and back. A choice example and rare. Comes on custom walnut stand. Ecuador, c. 800-400 B.C. $1,650.00

A509 A Moche gourd effigy stirrup spouted vessel in a large size at 10 1/2 inches tall, the vessel body with an approximate 7 inch diameter.
