| A291 A colorful and well crafted Huari/ Ica polychrome bottle with a round body, the midsection with a band in dark brown and cream with a series of three lines, perhaps abstract depictions of birds in flight; the upper half with a large panel in deep red and having two depictions of parrots with a wing and outstretched claws; and the neck of spout with abstract designs. Bottle is expertly modeled in very thin smooth pottery and painted in cream, deep brown, dark red, purple, and yellow. | A828 An exceptionally large Narino 'coquero' figurine from the border of Ecuador and Colombia. This fine figurine depicts a seated male on a bench or stool and calmly chewing a wad of coca leaves. The figure is overall decorated with a deep brown surface, his hair cropped and showing the serene face, a small wad of leaves in his right cheek, and nude except a sash across the chest which is decorated with some faded black negative resist designs. Entire figure rests upon a rectangular platform that retains textile impressions on the underside. Measuring a large nearly 13 inches tall, this is a very large example, around twice the height of normal depictions. Figure is reconstructed from original pieces, some masterful fill and repaint in several areas, and appears intact and excellent condition. Narino culture of Ecuador/ Colombia, circa 1200-1400 A.D. $1,450.00 | |
| BM246 A wonderful matched set of Chavin green stone ceremonial dishes. The set consists of a small round dish with recessed center that measures 4 1/4 inches wide and a cylindrical vase standing 3 1/4 inches tall and approximately 2 inches in diameter. The two pieces are carved from an identical stone and in excellent condition. Chavin culture of Peru, c. 400 B.C. $650.00 | |
| A685 A fine fragmentary incomplete Huari textile belt comprising 5 separate pieces. This fantastically ornate example has several pieces from the same belt all mounted together on a linen wrapped frame and is ready for hanging. Textile pieces are two- 3 inch wide pieces, probably separated from ancient damage, having a deep red ground with images of supernatural beings and abstract animal forms in green, golden, teal, blue, cream, burgundy, pink, and dark brown. Both examples are finished on the sides but with some minor separations in areas. The two pieces are 14 inches long mounted, but are doubled over on both ends and actually longer than shown. One is approximately 21 inches long and the other is 20 inches. Between the two large fragments are three thinner tassels or border pieces at 7 inches long each. Overall frame size is 17 inches by 12 1/2 inches wide. A very colorful display and high quality work. Huari culture of Peru, c. 800-1000 A.D. $600.00 | |
| A733 A beautiful Carchi/ Nariño jar with a rare animal effigy adorning the top. Vessel is in excellent condition but missing the animal's head from ancient times and with a tiny ancient hairline crack near one suspension loop. Jar sits nearly 4 inches tall with a diameter of just under 5 1/2 inches and is decorated with negative resist black designs on the plum base. Overall covered with heavy manganese deposits. The effigy laying across the top has long legs and arms and a long tail and appears to be a monkey or a lizard. Such effigies are rare for the culture and monkeys are a more dominating theme. Overall with strong ancient patina and a beautiful surface. Colombia, c. 1200-1400 A.D. $200.00 | |
| CL112 A Narino/Carchi wax resist decorated bowl in black and red on cream base at 3 inches tall, 5 1/4 inch diameter, intact with one stabilized stress crack. Retains much dendritic mineral depositing and vibrant paint. Colombia, c. 1200-1400 A.D. $100.00 | |
| A658 A large Mochica spouted jug with relief scene showing a geometrical stepped decoration at the base, probably a temple design, with staircase above where a seated captive with an Ai-Apec fanged and wrinkled faced figure is held tightly while a serpent extends on his left and a mace headed club sits to his right. The central figure is held at the arms by an iguana clan zoomorph wearing a bird on his head, a small dog is curled on second step below. To the left a winged bird figure sits gripping his right arm. The rear of the temple scene shows two strange little men walking with two cord bound tall birds. A very unusual scene. Vessel stands an impressive 11 1/2 inches tall and 7 1/2 inches wide with suspension loops on each side. Overall in a burnished orange clay with remains of cream highlighting pigments. Repaired on the underside and low base with resurfacing while the body has some expertly filled cracks; appears excellent and intact. A very decorative and impressive vessel. Mochica, Peru c. 200-550 A.D. $1,350.00 Closeup Photo | |
| A675 A fine Bolivian polychrome pitcher with bulbous base mounted with narrowing neck and pinched spout, a loop handle on back. Intricately painted with repeated panels of geometric stylized designs appearing to be human figures opposing each other vertically and connected at one leg; the legs of each human contort into a beaked bird head. Painted in dark brown with white outlining on the orange terra cotta base. Curiously, at the neck of this pitcher it appears that a human face had once existed in relief and was ground off in ancient times. Below the spout there is a wide vertical area meeting at a horizontal area that looks to be a nose and mouth; to each side is a round area with a carved recess (eyes) and behind that is a long vertical roughed surface area for ears. It appears that a human face may have been applied, post creation of this vessel in ancient times, and later came off. Vessel sits just over 7 inches tall and is in excellent, solid condition with minor rim and surface nicks. Bolivia, Expansion Period, c. 200-600 A.D. $550.00 | |
| P262 An early Chorrera/ Jama Coaque female standing votive figure with rounded shoulders, wide hips, and arms extended near the torso. The triangular face is surmounted with a tall, wide flaring turban and overall painted in bright red. Torso with incised delineation of small breasts, both painted red along with arms and feet. At an impressive 14 3/4 inches tall, this excellent example is reglued cleanly at the thin neck else excellent condition, and retains light ancient mineral deposits. The entire figure serves as an ocarina with mouth hole on backside of turban and finger holes on torso front and back. A choice example and rare. Comes on custom walnut stand. Ecuador, c. 800-400 B.C. $1,950.00 | |
| A748 A nice Vicus effigy jar crafted in a buff peach colored surface. The neck of the jar features a relief human face with coffee bean eyes, long nose, slit mouth, and pierced wide ears. Has minor rim nick, light stress line at base on back side, and some staining from glue(?) on base. Vicus, Peru, c. 100 B.C.-200 A.D. $300.00 |
